New Multiaxis Product Manager at CNC Software

CNC Software recently appointed a new product manager to lead the way for our Multiaxis product. To meet the demands of this ever increasing technology, our Multiaxis product now has it's own development team led by Karlo Apro. Karlo has written the book on multiaxis machining, so to speak.  He is the author of the recently released Secrects of 5-Axis Multiaxis Machining and has more than 30 years of experience in NC programming. For the past 15 years Karlo has specialized in high-end multiaxis applications and plans to assemble a complete multiaxis toolset for Mastercam.

"I am very excited to take this new position here at CNC Software. I have big plans to improve Mastercam's Multiaxis product with the perfect balance of user-friendliness and power." - Karlo Apro

AWFS Show Review

The AWFS show that took place last month in Las Vegas was a success for Mastercam. We had the opportunity to show our latest X4 software, as well as catch up with current customers.

During the show, we had a raffle for an iPod. We are proud to announce the winner is Michele McCormick of McCormick Woodworking, located in Liberty, IN. Congratulations Michele!

The 2009 Fresh Wood Student Competition, in full swing at the AWFS Show, highlighted outstanding construction and design achievements by students from the best high school and post-secondary woodworking programs North America.

The winner of the post-secondary category, Leah Kenttamaa-Squires from Purdue University, made the really cool lamp shown above using Mastercam!

Mastercam's New Dynamic Milling

Dynamic Mill is a new 2D High Speed Toolpath that was released in X4. It gives you the ability to utilize the entire flute length of the cutting tool, while maintaining more consistent cutting conditions. This new technique saves cutting time while reducing wear on your tooling and machines.

Dynamic Mill offers a number of customizable options including “micro lift” retracts that avoid excess heat buildup and powerful entry methods, including a custom entry method that allows it to program complex shapes. Both these options support custom feeds and speeds to further enhance productivity and generate safe motion.

Another advantage of Dynamic Milling is that it offers flexible retract options to keep the tool down in smaller parts and supports rapid retract on larger parts.

Updated Mastercam Interface

The migration to the efficient, easy-to-use tree-style dialogs continues in Mastercam X4 with the 2D toolpaths. When you select a contour or a drill operation, you will now see a new step-by-step interface.

One of the benefits of this streamlined interface is the ability to effortlessly change toolpath types. For example, if you begin a Drill toolpath (from the menu), select several points or arcs, and then realize when you begin setting parameters that Circle Mill is the better toolpath for the task, you can easily switch styles and continue with your work. There is no need to exit the toolpath and begin again because all geometry remains selected. Simply enter the appropriate parameters and process the toolpath.

Got Parts?

There isn’t a better way to show off Mastercam software than with slick, cool looking customer parts!

We are on the lookout for parts to display in our corporate Mastercam tradeshow booth.

If you have any parts that you think would look great in our booth, you could get a cool prize for sending them to us! In addition to sending the parts, we also need you to fill out the Parts Consent Form.

If you send us a part, you will automatically get a Mastercam keychain. If we end up using your part at tradeshows, you will get an iPod Nano as our way of saying thank you for helping us gather parts that show off Mastercam’s features and toolpaths.

If you have any questions, please e-mail michellen@mastercam.com.

All parts and signed permission can be sent to:
